  • Cumulative individual and corporate tax payments through the fifth fiscal month

President Trump spent his tax filing day in Minnesota, where he touted his $1.5 trillion package of corporate and individual tax cuts he signed into law in 2017 and made a pitch for his 2020 reelection. Yet recent polls show the public isn't so sure.

The president showed the audience a printout of the New York Times article during a roundtable discussion in Minnesota to promote its success in boosting the economy.

Companies were also winners in the scenario as a result of slashing the corporate tax rate to make the US more competitive with other countries.

The president's focus on tax day served to highlight his refusal to release his own tax returns.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said the administration intends to respond to Neal by the April 23 deadline but said there are "complicated legal issues" at play.

The bill's backers say two-thirds of American taxpayers should be getting a break under the law. "I would just emphasize this is a decision that has enormous precedence in terms of potentially weaponizing the IRS".

Americans disappointed with their tax returns this year ー the first since the Republican tax cuts went into effect ー would be justified in blaming politicians in Washington for concocting a confusing system, an economist from the conservative Tax Foundation said. "It's very simple", Trump told reporters last week, and also argued the matter has already been litigated through the 2016 election.

"I didn't read the rest of the article. frankly".

"We have once again reiterated our objections to the unconstitutional demand for the President's tax returns", the president's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow said.

Speaking at a trucking company in the Minneapolis suburb of Burnsville on Monday, Trump said he hoped his economic message would be met with enthusiasm from a state that he came within 1.5 percentage points of carrying in 2016.
