Videos circulated online showing hundreds of troops outside the military compound in Khartoum.

They demanded the dissolution of Bashir's National Congress Party and said they received affirmation from the TMC that the party will not participate in a transitional government being negotiated.

Al Jazeera's Mohamed Vall, reporting from Khartoum, said the recent concessions by Sudan's military rulers had failed to win over protesters, many of whom remain distrustful of the higher echelons of the country's armed forces due to their historical links to al-Bashir's former administration.

Al-Burhan has also vowed to restructure state institutions and "uproot the [Bashir] regime and its symbols" - but has also said that the transition to civilian rule could take up to two years.

Fearing that the core of the old establishment is far from gone, the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) on Monday reiterated its call for the military council to be dissolved and substituted by a civilian one that will only include "limited" army representation.

"We appeal to all to move immediately to the protest camp to protect the revolution and its gains", it said in a statement.

Last Thursday Sudan's army announced it had removed and detained Bashir after three decades in power and was setting up a transitional military council to run the country.

The military council met political parties on Sunday and urged them to agree on an "independent figure" to be prime minister, an AFP correspondent at the meeting said.

If the junta fails to hand power to civilians within 15 days, the AU will suspend "the participation of Sudan in all AU's activities until the restoration of constitutional order", the body's Peace and Security Council (PSC) said in a statement.

The talks came a day after the embassies of Britain, the United States and Norway issued a joint statement saying the "legitimate change" the Sudanese people demanded had not taken place.

American actor George Clooney, who has campaigned hard to draw attention to the conflict in Sudan's Darfur region, over the weekend urged world powers to pressure the military "to turn over full executive power to a civilian-led transitional government".

But in a press conference, the council's spokesman did not respond to the protesters' latest demands.

An end to the state of emergency Bashir imposed on February 22.

On Saturday, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, the head of the military council, pledged large-scale political and economic reforms.

He did however announce the appointment of a new NISS head after the intelligence agency's chief Salih Ghosh resigned on Saturday.
