Boonrod was lifted by crane on to an oil vessel that was passing through the area on Sunday to be transported to a veterinary practice in southern Thailand.

(Vitisak Payalaw) Workers from the Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Ltd. oil rig rescued a dog swimming 137 miles offshore in the Gulf of Thailand on Friday. The brown dog stayed on the rig for two nights, reports Newsflare, and was fed well by the rig's staff.

Workers spotted the animal's head poking up above water as the dog paddled through the ocean towards the platform.

She was brought to a vet in Songkhla, Thailand on Monday. Thankfully the sea was quite still because the wind was calm.

"We just saw her small head but if the ripples were bigger, I think we probably wouldn't have noticed her at all".

According to Associated Press, workers called out to the exhausted animal, who then swam towards the rig and took refuge in its rusted metal bars.

"Finally, we made a decision to tie a rope around his neck and pull him to our site", Vitisak wrote. She had lost her body water.

Oil rig workers and animal charities are baffled as to how she came to be swimming so far from shore.

"When we gave her water and minerals her symptoms improved". The dog soon perked up and started to sit up and walk normally, he said.

It is possible she swam from the shore or boarded a boat then jumped off.

She has now been taken ashore to a vets who gave her a clean bill of health. The workers said they do not know whether the canine fell overboard from a boat.

'Everybody who played a part in co-coordinating the rescue has done a brilliant job'.
