Her performance is expected to last 15 minutes and will cost Israel an estimated $1.3 million, a price tag said to have been picked up by Canadian-Israeli billionaire Sylvan Adams.

Fans and activists are urging Madonna to rethink her plans to perform at next month's Eurovision Song Contest in Israel - and boycott the event. One song will be a well-known single, while the other will be a track off of one of her upcoming album.

However Eurovision organisers told the BBC: "No final decisions have been made, or agreements signed".

Following her reported appearance at this year's Eurovision grand finale, which will be held on May 18, boycott campaigners called on Madonna to reconsider the event.

In any case, Eurovision 2019 has just officially acquired an extra element of excitement and memorability due to Madonna's confirmation.

Israel was chosen as host after local singer Netta Barzilai won a year ago in Portugal with Toy, propelling her to worldwide stardom.

The cost of bringing the worldwide superstar to Israel will be covered by Israeli-Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams.

Adams told the Jerusalem Post that the concert is likely to improve Israel's image across the world. Rumors she was in negotiations to perform at the high-profile worldwide event began months ago.

Her Eurovision gig will mark the fourth time Madonna has performed in the Holy Land, following on from shows in 1993, 2009 and 2012.

He is no stranger to singing talent shows: Michael previously auditioned for The X Factor in 2014 and previous year, he became the first victor of BBC One's singing show All Together Now.
