Incumbent Rachel Notley of the Alberta New Democratic Party ran on a platform focused on highlighting her successes as the province's leader, most notably her track record on economic issues. "The vast majority of discussion tonight is already about the federal election". No other party made a showing.
Once Kenney is sworn in, Canada will have no women premiers.
Hausser said the NDP was able to raise more money, bring out more volunteers, place more election signs and grow the party.
"Now we need a Conservative government back East", said Rafi Tahmazian, director of investment manager Canoe Financial in Calgary, who voted for Kenney.
"We congratulate Jason on his big win, and urge him to restore the rights and freedoms that have been stripped away from parents and people of faith during these past four years of NDP tyranny".
He also vowed to put a "pause" on the NDP's "ideological" overhaul of Alberta's school curriculum.
"The key is a majority government, which UCP has."
The UCP holds early leads in many Calgary seats. Both elected single members to the 87-seat legislature last time around and were hoping to come up the middle.
Rachel Notley's NDP came in second with 35 seats and 30 per cent of the popular vote, with the Alberta Party picking up the final three seats.

"We've been selling our country's greatest asset at firesale prices, losing billions of dollars of value that belongs to us", Kenney said Tuesday.
Notley, in turn, said Kenney's plan to freeze spending and pursue more private-care options in health care would have a profound impact on students and patients. "Build that pipe!" as reported in Global News.

"Kenney should waste no time in repealing the NDP's unconstitutional Bill 9, which banned peaceful, pro-life expression on taxpayer-owned public sidewalks within 50 metres of abortion facilities", said Jack Fonseca, political operations director for Campaign Life Coalition.
"Parental rights over the moral education of children must be respected by the State", he said.
Notley will either be the first Alberta NDP premier to win re-election or the first leader in the province to fail to win a renewed mandate on the first try.
Notley, speaking to supporters at her Edmonton headquarters, touted her government's accomplishments and said she will stay on as NDP leader.
