FBI looks for woman ‘infatuated’ with Columbine shooting

  • Littleton Colo. Following a lockdown at Columbine High School and other Denver area schools authorities say they are looking for a woman suspected of making threats

Officials did not provide further details about the threats or say where she was from. As the district prepares for the day's memorial events, it is fending off an onslaught of curious strangers who trespass in the school's parking lot - sometimes more than 30 people in a day.

Pais is a white female, 5-foot-5, with brown hair, and she was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers as well as black combat boots. That list included Columbine, the site of a horrific massacre on April 20, 1999.

Pais has shown an "infatuation" with the 1999 shooting at Columbine, said Dean Phillips, head of the Denver office of the FBI, which is leading the investigation.

Almost 20 school districts in the greater Denver area will be closed Wednesday due to security concerns just days ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.

After the threat was made public, all Jefferson County schools were placed on lockout status.

Tuesday's lockout, less serious than a public safety "lockdown", means activities inside schools may continue as usual but entry and exit are restricted, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter.

They didn't say where she traveled from.

Please call the Federal Bureau of Investigation tipline at (303) 630-6227 where your call will be answered immediately if you have seen this individual or have information on her whereabouts. Two threats were made to the school: One call said there was a bomb inside the building, and another said there was a person with a gun outside.

"She did make statements that were threatening to schools and she did purchase a firearm. and that's why she's a credible threat", said Patricia Billinger, a spokeswoman with the Colorado Department of Public Safety.

Then, at 12:20 p.m., Jefferson County Schools tweeted this: "We have placed #ColumbineHighSchool, #LeawoodElementary, @bhelementaryco and all mountain schools on lockout".

Authorities issued a security warning to schools throughout the Denver area late on Tuesday. "She is armed and considered risky", said Mike Taplin with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, CBS Denver reported.

Columbine students continued attending classes in the afternoon and left school on time, but after-school activities were canceled on the campus in Littleton, Colorado.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Pais traveled to Colorado Monday night and made threats.

Columbine High School and about a dozen other schools are on lockdown as law enforcement says it is investigating what appears to be a credible threat possibly involving the schools. Extra precautions were taken at schools near Columbine, where sheriff's deputies were on hand. There was no immediate indication whether Tuesday's lockdown has any connection to the anniversary.
