  • Duke’s Zion Williamson Announces His NBA Draft Decision

A bunch of college players have declared early, but the one everyone has been waiting for has come.

Duke superstar freshman Zion Williamson officially declared himself for the National Basketball Association draft on Monday (April 15), which was revealed in an Instagram video.

Williamson became a viral sensation for his dunking displays in high school, then delivered in his lone collegiate season at Duke. The power forward averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest while shooting 68.0 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and 64.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Williamson took home every major individual award he could.

In addition to those awards, Williamson won the ACC Freshman and Player of the Year, the AP Player of the Year, the Naismith Award, and was a consensus First Team All-American.

He is the sixth Wooden Award victor for Duke, the most of any school.

Williamson thanked a number of people in the video, including coach Mike Krzyzewski, his mother and Duke fans for their support.

Williamson is highly thought of in NBA Draft circles, seen as one of the best prospects the process has seen in the last 25 years. The Phoenix Suns share the same best-possible odds at the No. 1 pick of 14 percent with the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers.
