The longtime host has been absent from the ABC talk show since early February, when she was hospitalized for pneumonia and sepsis - a double-whammy illness that she said nearly killed her. Goldberg went on to say that she's feeling much better, and she plans on returning to The View part-time next week, maybe even as early as Monday.

Admitting that "makeup helps" her look better, Goldberg - who has not hosted the show since February 6 - went on to explain that her recovery is not over yet.

Goldberg said it was her first "foray" out but that she is still dealing with remnants of her illness.

"This is my first foray out". I'm not there yet.

She said her "scariest moment" was "hearing my doctor say to me 'You do realize how close to death you were?'"

"They said, 'well, your insurance has said no to this.' I said, 'well, can I lease it, can I rent it?'" she went on. Double pneumonia and sepsis. Goldberg said she hopes to appear on next Monday's episode. "I really kind of missed y'all".

"You must really take care of yourself, because there's little tiny stuff out there that will kill you that you never think of", Goldberg said.

Goldberg shared that she's still battling a cough, which is the last thing to conquer after being diagnosed with pneumonia. This is stuff that, you know, really for everybody, you know, you think you can push through because you got a little cold.

The EGOT victor, 63, dropped in on Joy Behar, Abby Huntsman, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Meghan McCain at the top of the show for her first live appearance since a serious bout of pneumonia put her in the hospital for three weeks. "Why is it I've been paying insurance for nearly 60 years and it hasn't rolled over?"

Whoopi stressed how close she was to dying, saying, "There's death and here's me".

The host said the experience was a "cautionary tale for all of us". "The guy said to me, 'What color is that?' talking about my face because I was some weird color", she said. You say, 'I'm gonna just keep going, keep going.' And you think because you've healed quick before that something insane can't happen.

As it turned out, Goldberg's doctors had recommended a different machine than her insurer, and her so-called advocate was siding with the latter. "B--h, I could have bought this machine". "And the people who are saying "no" to you are not doctors, they are people looking at algorithms".
