Verizon Announces First 5G Cities, And This Is How Much You'll Pay

As you may have guessed, they are starting the rollout off slowly with a ramp-up to more markets coming later this year. As it turns out, we're less than a month away from the commercial launch of Verizon's mobile 5G Ultra Wideband network in (parts of) Chicago and Minneapolis.
Good news, Verizon, the exclusive 5G carrier of the Moto Z3, is opening pre-orders at a much more reasonable $50 (about £38, AU$70), and 5G plans start at an extra $10 a month. The de-prioritization policy "will follow your 4G plan" when you're in a 4G area, Verizon told Ars. That's not a bad deal if you're looking for quick access to 5G, as long as you're okay having to carry a huge Moto Z3 contraption in your pocket.
The Wireless industry is an ever-changing world where big ideas come along daily. It's the first time a major communications company unveiled pricing for what experts say will be a faster service plan. Mobile 5G service - which Verizon officially calls 5G Mobility - will go live in both cities on April 11, just a hair over four weeks from today.
Without the 5G service, Verizon's three unlimited plans cost $75, $85, or $95 a month for a single line and differ based on throttling policies, video quality, and mobile hotspot data limits. Of course, you'll need a compatible phone and there are none at this point. That means a single Above Unlimited line with 5G access will cost $105 a month with a $5 Auto Pay discount. Tough luck! You won't be getting 5G yet. The promise of "no data de-prioritization" also applies only to the Moto Mod and early launch cities.
The 5G Moto Mod for Motorola's Moto
The 4G LTE-enabled Moto Z3 is already out, but its 5G Moto Mod add-on arrives on Thursday, April 11, and pre-orders start even sooner: tomorrow, Thursday, March 14. After the pre-order period, it'll return back to its regular $350 sticker price, which is a bit pricey if you ask us.
Verizon is moving ahead with its 5G ambitions with the announcement of the first two cities where it will deploy its ultra-fast connection. I'm not sure anyone should ever pay $349 for a 5G Moto Mod brick. When Verizon's 5G service launches in Chicago and Minneapolis next month, that 5G Moto Mod will likely be the only way to tap into the network.
Verizon is also planning to sell the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, but there's no availability date yet.
