  • Manchester United 'lose out to Real Madrid for Eder Militao'

The 21-year-old will provide competition for veteran defender Sergio Ramos and World Cup victor Raphael Varane next season, as Madrid look to refresh an ageing squad under Zidane's leadership.

Real Madrid have clinched a deal to sign the Brazilian defender Eder Militao, 21, from Portuguese champions FC Porto from next season, the two clubs announced on Thursday.

Militao has played virtually every game for Porto so far in 2018/19 after making his Liga Primeira debut while still only 20 back in September.

Real Madrid have had many issues during the 2018/19 season, one of which has been the defence.

Real said Militao would join on a four-year deal until 2025.

"He has been named the best defender in the league for the last five months in a row".

Militao was signed by Porto from Sao Paulo in August 2018. It stands out for its speed, placement and ability to anticipate.

A man who made his senior worldwide debut for Brazil in September 2018 will join a defensive unit in Spain which has been far from watertight this season.

The Brazil worldwide has played 34 times for UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists this season, scoring three goals and registering two assists across all competitions.

"Prior to making the move to Portugal, Militao made a name for himself in Brazilian football".
