  • The Bangladesh cricket team were outside the Christchurch mosque where shots were fired on Friday

Armed police are seen following a shooting at the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand March 15, 2019. Srinivas is a cricket buff by passion and a video analyst by profession.

New Zealand Police have stormed the area and are urging anyone in the area to stay indoors. Neither the players nor me initially realised what was happening.

"When any foreign team comes to our country, we always ensure proper security", Mr. Hassan said.

"Then at that point we realised that if they came out of the mosque and [started shooting], we'd be in trouble". There is no place in New Zealand for such extreme acts of unprecedented violence.

The Bangladesh team were able to return to Hagley Oval, where Saturday's third Test was scheduled to take place. I start running towards the mosque when I spot the Bangladesh team bus. But before they could leave the bus, they heard gunshots and were soon barred from leaving the bus.

"It was a huge risk but there is nothing else we could have done".

It was raining in Christchurch since morning and the team had an optional practice session. "We have advised the players not to step out".

The team were in Hagley Park and have gone back to the Oval. "Once it is assured only then we will go, otherwise not", he said.

Just as we were approaching the mosque, we realised we were right next to where the shooting actually happened. "They may even be refugees here", Arden said.

Dhaka complained that players were not provided with any security when they headed for the mosque. "There was a sense of eeriness till we reached the hotel".

One man said the scene at the mosque was chaotic. "Everyone is clearly upset that something like this has happened here", he said.

Srinivas studied engineering in Chennai and also played in the Chennai league before doing his specialisation on cricket analysis.

"Inshallah (God willing) everyone who's been killed today... you guys are all in paradise", he said, wiping away tears as he spoke. He felt the players were no mood to play after the tragedy in which 49 were killed. New Zealand won the first two games in the series. "They are all too shocked to react". "We all stayed in one room talking to one another till late into the night". Twitter has suspended an account purportedly used by New Zealand mass shooting suspect, a journalist has reported. Srinivas will directly fly to Hyderabad to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. "We are working to have any footage removed". He received calls from quite a few friends, but he broke the news to his parents felling distraught, fear and relief. He's calling me for help.

"In future, whenever we send our cricket team overseas we will do that after examining and reviewing the security matters of the host countries", Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Saturday, according to the state-run news agency BSS.

They also abandoned a tour of Pakistan in May 2002 following a suicide bombing outside their hotel in Karachi.

Team manager Khaled Mashud said players and staff on the bus watched as blood-soaked victims staggered from the building.

Pakistan Embassy in New Zealand is continuously in contact with the local administration. As a country, we'll have to look at [security of visiting teams].
