  • The Christchurch gunman who live streamed the shooting on Facebook promoted Youtube star PewDiePie in his video

Recalling posters that attempted to implicate Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to the September 11 terrorist attacks, Jenkins told hosts Brian Becker and John Kiriakou that such messaging "lends itself to what we saw last night [in New Zealand]". One man in his late 20s has been charged with murders.

He was likely to face further charges, police said.

The 59-year-old Canadian songwriter was due to appear at Hagley Park in the New Zealand city on Sunday, but has since put the concert on hold following the tragic attack. Two explosive devices attached to suspects' vehicles have now been found and they have been disarmed.

Toronto police would not confirm any specific steps they are taking but said they are making "appropriate adjustments to our plans in order to mitigate the potential risks to public safety".

New Zealand's national flag is flown at half-staff on a Parliament building in Wellington on Friday, March 15.

Officials have also not confirmed that the man charged is the same person who wrote a 74-page racist manifesto posted online, which appears to lay out a motive in the form of a hatred of non-white immigrants.

Police took three men and a woman into custody.

Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, released the following statement after the massacre: "What has happened in Christchurch is an extraordinary act of unprecedented violence". Her foreign minister, Heiko Maas, said: "When people are murdered exclusively due to their religion, this is an attack on us all".

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the attack was a result of Muslims being demonized. He called the attacker an "extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist".

The Los Angeles Police Department posted to Twitter that while it had no indication that any related attacks would be carried out in the city, it would increase patrolling around L.A. mosques "out of an abundance of caution". "In fact they were now based in Dunedin".

The shootings occurred at two different mosques in two separate locations, and police advised mosques across the country to "shut their doors". And in the video he livestreamed of his shooting, no remorse can be seen or heard. That was almost 30 years ago and was the deadliest shooting in New Zealand's history, until Friday.

The visiting Bangladesh cricket team narrowly avoided the shooting after arriving at the mosque for prayers.

None of those apprehended had a criminal history either in New Zealand or in Australia, nor were they on any watchlists in either country, Ms Ardern said.

CNN cites a 2015 study that reported New Zealand had an adjusted rate of about 1 gun death per 100,000 people, while in 2017, the United States has an adjusted rate of 12 gun deaths per 100,000 people.

Bulgaria's chief prosecutor said his country launched a probe on Friday into a November 2018 visit by the suspect.

Christchurch is home to almost 400,000 people and is sometimes called the Garden City.

Rivlin wrote that the "murder of people at prayer, in their most holy and sacred place, is a depraved and despicable act".

That Act created a regulation so that anyone over the age of 16, who is a "fit and proper person" and the law defines as "a person of good character who will abide by the Laws of New Zealand", can be legally granted a gun license; which is require in order to buy or own a gun.
