May still hopes for changes to Brexit deal

No, really! We've heard this before, but now it looks to be real.

The Daily Mail says there is now speculation over how long Mrs May will remain as Prime Minister, although her aides have insisted she has not considered resigning.

Lidington said lawmakers faced "a fundamental choice.to vote for the improved deal or to plunge this country into a political crisis".

Or whether it votes to postpone Brexit.

Here's what you need to know about the week ahead.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has travelled to Washington as part of his annual St Patrick's Day visit - and is expected to comment for the first time since the vote this afternoon.

Speaking to The Echo in the aftermath of another Brexit deal defeat for British prime minister Theresa May, Mr Martin said: "I think it is very disappointing and a significant setback".

European Union chief negotiator Michel Barnier repeated on Friday that the bloc could offer a legally binding statement confirming the backstop was only meant to be temporary. Remaining inside a customs arrangement would prevent the United Kingdom from striking new trade deals with other nations.

"We will essentially be voting on exactly the same Withdrawal Agreement that we voted on last time and in very simple terms: if you ask the same question you are likely to get pretty much the same answer", said Mark Francois, a pro-Brexit lawmaker in May's Conservative Party.

"This balanced approach will help to support British jobs and avoid potential price spikes that would hit the poorest households the hardest". That could provoke violence, given the border's violent political history. Auto prices would surge upwards by an average of £1,500 per new auto imported from the European Union because of a 10.6 per tax on the cost of all "fully finished" vehicles from the continent.

"I am confident that we will do a deal", said U.K. Treasury chief Philip Hammond. Amendments are voted upon before the government's deal.

Two months ago, the House of Commons rejected the withdrawal agreement by a huge majority, and sent May back to renegotiate.

Prime Minister Theresa May said Monday she has secured "legally binding" guarantees from the European Union created to get the Brexit deal through the British parliament and avert a chaotic withdrawal.

The EU warned British politicians that negotiations will not be reopened if Parliament rejects the deal again.

Many products that now trade seamlessly between the United Kingdom and the EU would be expected to face tariffs and inspections when Britain leaves the European Union near the end of this month.

However, her party has also confirmed that it will not push for a parliamentary vote on a second referendum this week even if the Brexit deal is resoundingly defeated.

Some protections for British producers would remain in place, including for carmakers - who are major employers in Britain - and beef, lamb, pork, poultry and dairy farmers.

The ultimate outcome remains unclear, though most diplomats and investors say Brexit will define the United Kingdom's prosperity for generations to come. "Now this impasse can only be solved in the U.K".

The Prime Minister was warned that her position could be in jeopardy unless she stuck to commitments she made about this week's votes.

Yet May has not given up on a third attempt to get her deal through Parliament again.

She survived a bid to oust her through a no-confidence vote in December, so can't be forced from office for a year.

But Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn dismissed the move and called on MPs to reject the deal.

The immediate reaction was cautious from Brexit-supporting MPs in her own party and from the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party which props up her minority government.

"The stakes are far too high to assume she has this under control".
