Manchester City boss Guardiola 'sorry' for win against Swansea with no VAR

City fought back from 2-0 down to record a dramatic and controversial 3-2 victory in the quarter-final clash. "When we analyse the game we deserved to win by far".

There was also debate over City's equaliser, which came from the penalty spot after Cameron Carter-Vickers was adjudged to have fouled Raheem Sterling.

Guardiola was rueful about the decision in his post-match news conference, saying: "All around Europe there is VAR, here there is not".

The Red Devils were handed a red card following a reckless challenge by Victor Lindelof on 83 minutes, but the Video Assistant Referee overturned decision and the defender was only handed a yellow card.

Guardiola said: 'If it is not a penalty, and it is offside like the people say, I'm sorry.

Aguero then completed the turnaround at the end with a header despite appearing to stray offside and, had VAR been in use, their second and third goals arguably would have been disallowed.

"That seems a bit unusual considering we were there for seven years and all the technology is placed here to accommodate it".

Pep Guardiola's team roared back from a two-goal half-time deficit to score three times after the break, with Sergio Aguero grabbing a disputed late victor in a 3-2 victory.

For a long time, the story of the game looked like it would be all about Celina, a player who joined Swansea from Manchester City and someone Guardiola knows all about.

The game was marred late on by a supporter running on to the pitch from a stand housing home fans and jostling City substitute Oleksandr Zinchenko.

"I don't want anything to take away from the quality of our performance", said Swansea manager Potter.

"We showed great courage, great quality and effort and from our perspective I thought our players were incredible".

On the pitch invasion, Guardiola added: "It's happened a few times lately and it's a worry because in the future we could have problems".
