  • Students to ‘strike’ against climate change inaction this Friday

Encinal Junior & Senior High School students Emma Kohler and Olivia Brune organized the march in partnership with the Sierra Club and Political and Proud. "We can not teach on a dead planet".

The move - revealed in a letter from council chief Annemarie O'Donnell to Glasgow's Green MSP Patrick Harvie - represents a shift in the council's message from before the last youth climate strike. In Massachusetts, they are taking place in several communities, including Boston, Amherst, Barnstable, and Great Barrington.

"As climate change is the most serious threat to human health in the 21st century, health professionals recognise the urgent need for rapid change at all levels of society".

"Students throughout history have been a critical driving force of social movements".

Health professionals are pledging their support for school students around New Zealand who will be striking this Friday to call for meaningful action on climate change. "The students leading this movement have demonstrated courage in standing up to the powerful forces that want to protect the massive profits being made by maintaining the status quo".

She's a Sydney teenager and part of the committee of climate strikers organising the Sydney leg of the school strike on Friday. History teaches us that whenever youth mobilise for change, from civil rights to nuclear-free movements, their actions are always initially trivialised and dismissed as publicity seeking or naive, but we need to listen to these concerns, recognise the seriousness and urgent nature of the issues young people face, and act on their demands with urgent resolve. "This is a celebration of what we love most!" Even though Vivanco is not participating in the strike, she is glad that students around the world are.

"I school striked for the climate".

"The situation we are in right now with climate change can not wait until we finish school", Ms Denman said.

"That is not the case", she said.

"The youth of our world are calling for our politicians, parents, family, the older generations to stand with us", Baines said, "because we want a future, we want to have children". However in the upcoming federal election, there are some beacons of hope for climate action.

"I$3 absolutely understand and expect the next generation to raise what is the biggest issue facing them globally. Because if we don't get it, and no one does it for us, then we'll never get anything done".

"Too often we make this assessment that to make an impact we have to be of voting age".
