  • Range Rover Evoque

The issue was discovered by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), which identified 10 models which emit more Carbon dioxide than declared at their initial certification.

The repairs could include software updates as well as physical alterations, with some Range Rover Evoque models possibly requiring new tyres.

It affects Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles fitted with either a 2.0-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engine.

These include Land Rover's Discovery, Discovery Sport, Range Rover Sport, Evoque and Velar models, as well as examples of Jaguar's E-Pace, F-Pace, F-Type, XE and XF.

The issue was discovered by the UK Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), which reported its findings to Jaguar Land Rover.

The company said in a statement affected vehicles are being "rectified" to "ensure the correct Carbon dioxide performance is dependably achieved". In turn, the auto maker reported the issued to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, which handles recalls, and an alert was issued via the European Commission's rapid alert system. Any recall work done on your auto will be free of charge.

If you own an affected vehicle, Jaguar Land Rover should soon be contacting you to arrange a free of charge fix (if you're anxious you could cal Jaguar Customer Services on 0345 303 2303 or Land Rover on 0370 500 0500), which seems to mean a software update.

An industry source said around 44,000 cars will be recalled once remedial action has been agreed between the manufacturer and the authorities. The company will contact the owners of the affected vehicles to arrange for free-of-charge repairs.

Land Rover Discoveries with the 2.0-litre Ingenium engine are among the models being recalled.

It's only a week since Jaguar Land Rover proved how low their diesel auto emissions now are by using independent testing by AIR Index to demonstrate just how clean their engines now are.
