Golden Tate Agrees To Four-Year, $37.5M Deal With Giants

  • Golden Tate has hilarious reaction to Giants signing him

As early as Wednesday afternoon, sources told CLNS Media that free agent wide receiver Adam Humphries had second thoughts about picking Tennessee over an opportunity to play with Tom Brady and the Patriots.

With Odell Beckham traded, somebody has to catch passes for the New York Giants.

Golden Tate is arguably the best receiver left in National Football League free agency. Furthermore, while the Giants needed a receiver, they did not need a slot receiver when their only decent receiver, Sterling Shepard, already operates primarily out of the slot.

Tate caught 90-plus passes in four straight seasons for the Lions and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2014.

Tate's five-year, $31 million deal would go down as one of the best moves in Martin Mayhew's tenure as general manager.

The Lions discussed an extension with him past year but had numbers lower than he was looking for.

The Patriots re-signed wide receiver Phillip Dorsett to a one-year deal Wednesday. Signing a 30-year-old receiver to a four-year deal signals the opposite approach. He felt like more of a complementary piece for the Eagles' offense, but did make his presence known with a game-winning touchdown reception in the team's NFC divisional round victory over the Chicago Bears. It's a position they could still look to address in the draft.
