Well, that could soon become a reality in the event that the FIFA vs UEFA war, which peaked at the FIFA Council meeting in Miami on Friday, continues, something that seems likely due to how far apart the two sides are.

It is expected that the 24 participating clubs will comprise eight European teams, six South American outfits, three each from Africa, Asia and the Concacaf region, and one from Oceania.

The letter, obtained by BBC Sport, stated that there should be no changes to the current fixed worldwide match calendar (IMC), which runs until 2024, and raised concerns about fixture congestion.

Infantino admitted there have been "differences of opinion" since he first floated the idea a year ago and referred to "constructive dialogue" with Europe that he hoped to build on.

The 27 referees and 48 assistant referees selected for the Women's World Cup took part in VAR training at a camp in Qatar last month.

"We came to conclusion, yes it's feasible to move from 32 to 48 teams at the World Cup provided certain conditions are met".

In its letter, the ECA strongly criticised Infantino for failing to reveal more details about who is providing the financial backing for the new competition and ignoring its concerns about the impact on players.

"Uefa shares ECA's view that the International Match Calendar in 2021 does not provide any realistic option to stage a 24-team Club World Cup and that it should furthermore not be played at a time when players should have a well-deserved rest period", it said in a statement. "If the calendar is not modified, of course we can not agree". "Five games in four years".

VAR, which made its debut at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation, will now be deployed for the women's tournament which kicks off in June in France.

As anticipated, the idea of expanding the Qatar World Cup from 32 to 48 teams - the other item on the agenda that drew a large continent of worldwide journalists to Miami - was kicked down the road, to use political jargon, until the FIFA Congress in June even though, said Infantino, 90% of the FIFA membership was in favour of adding 16 more finalists.

As host country, India automatically qualifies for the 16-team showpiece event.

"Caf will definitely support the vision of (Fifa president) Gianni Infantino if he wants this", Pinnick said.

"We are in the lucky situation that I can speak to anyone in the Gulf region and talk just about football", Infantino said.

Federation Internationale de Football Association has also announced that VAR will be used in this year's Women's World Cup, which begins in France on 7 June.
