People with pre-existing heart, liver or kidney conditions are at even higher risk of kidney damage when taking NSAIDs.

NSAIDs are used to treat a host of conditions like fever, different kinds of pain (indomethacin, brufen, naproxen, etc), but they can also reduce the amount of blood flow to the kidneys.

She observed that Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) situation is a global problem and that it is the sixth fastest growing cause of death in the world. Hypertension can harden, narrow or weaken the blood vessels around the organs, leading to kidney failure.

The CardioVascular Coalition (CVC) is comprised of national organizations representing physicians, care providers, advocates, and manufacturers who came together to advance community-based solutions created to improve awareness and prevention of cardiovascular disease and peripheral artery disease, reduce geographic disparities in access to care, and secure patient access to high-quality, cost-effective, community-based interventional treatment across America. According to the experts, the main symptoms and features of kidney diseases include swollen face and feet, tiredness, lack of appetite, lack of concentration, blood in urine, frothy urine, vomiting, difficulty in breathing etc. High blood pressure is especially likely to cause kidney damage when associated with other factors like diabetes, high cholesterol and various cardiovascular diseases.

Health organizations organize this campaign globally to spread messages about kidney diseases, complications, and prevention and cure all across the countries.

Kidneys are important organs that perform vital bodily functions such as clearing toxins, filtering blood, producing hormones and balancing fluids in the body. The institute aims to properly control diabetes (fasting glucose in 90-130 range and random blood glucose of less than 180) and high blood pressure (keeping it below 130/80), and manage lipid/cholesterol levels (target LDL of less than 100, triglycerides less than 150) through a low protein and low salt diet. AKF's Know Your Kidneys program is supported by national sponsors Satellite Healthcare and Any Lab Test Now. In many cases, this can be reversed if adequate medical care can be given without delay.

The celebration was initiated by the joint committee of the International Society of Nephrology and International Federation of Kidney Foundations in 2006. It's not easy to undo kidney damage and may require painstakingly tedious procedures like dialysis or a kidney transplant.

CKD is fairly common, with 1 in 10 people said to be suffering from some or the other form of kidney disorder. And with earlier diagnosis, you or your loved ones with kidney disease stand a better chance of slowing the disease's progress and preventing or delaying life-threatening kidney failure.

Poorly functioning kidneys can result in electrolyte imbalances.

As the world marks the 2019 World Kidney Day, a Consultant Nephrologist, Dr Yemi Raji, emphasized low salt intake to reduce risk of kidney disease.

If your urine has excessive bubbles or takes several flushes to go away, it may be a sign of kidney disease. "We need people to feel empowered to talk to their doctors about their risk for kidney disease".
