  • Wales police shows the smartphone which stopped an alleged attacker's arrow on Wednesday

The resident whipped out his mobile phone to take a photo of the armed man who was poised to fire.

The arrow struck the mobile phone, penetrating the device and emerged on the other side.

NSW Police confirmed in a statement that officers were called to the 43-year-old's Nimbin home at around 9am yesterday following the alleged altercation.

The incident began when the attacker, carrying a bow and arrow, confronted the man outside his house, police said.

iPhone shields Australian man from bow and arrow attack
Man armed with a bow fires an arrow at a neighbour - piercing the phone and slicing open his chin

A man has inadvertently saved himself from serious injury by catching an arrow with his phone after another man allegedly shot at him in New South Wales' hippy heartland. The phone smashed into the resident's chin and caused a small cut but did not require medical treatment. That last scenario may seem like the most unlikely, but it's what happened to an Australian man who was attacked by someone he knew on Wednesday.

He was charged with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault causing bodily harm and malicious damage.

Police said the 39-year-old suspect was known to the victim.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Lismore Local Court on April 15.
