16-Year-Old Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

I think that change is on the horizon and the people will stand up for their future, Thunberg said in an interview with the Guardian. Freddy Andre Oevstegaard and two additional members of the Socialist Left Party in Norway have confirmed they submitted Thunberg's name to the Nobel Committee earlier this year, saying they believe "the massive movement Greta has set in motion is a very important peace contribution".

"Youth Strike 4 Climate Derry'" is being led by Foyle College student, 17-year-old Jodi Desmond, who has been inspired by the actions of 16-year-old Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg, who has called on students all over the world to strike on Fridays in protest against climate change. The less action taken in the short term, the worse the long-term impacts will be, researchers have spelled out in recent reports from United States and United Nations climate scientists.

Thousands of school students from Russell to Invercargill are expected to take to the streets today, as part of a worldwide protest against climate change.

Méabh Mackenzie is organising a protest with about 30 fellow pupils from Daliburgh primary school on the island of South Uist, with the express goal of standing in solidarity with other threatened island communities across the globe. "Change is coming whether they like it or not", she said.

Some friends are "not into it at all", she suspects because they do not want to go out in the cold - the forecast is for hail on Friday.

We are certain that Greta would rather have government action on the sixth mass extinction than the Nobel Peace Prize should they win.

"Everyone is needed. Everyone is welcome", she wrote.

"These strikes generally pop up around the world by passionate students who see the importance and emphasis that missing school puts on this issue".

"For way too long, the politicians and the people in power have gotten away with not doing anything to fight the climate crisis, but we will make sure that they will not get away with it any longer", Thunberg told the crowd at a school strike in Antwerp, Belgium this month. I hope so. Everyone talks about the climate now.
