A federal jury in NY has found Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera guilty of all 10 criminal counts against him, including the top charge of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise.

The jury found Chapo guilty of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, conspiracy to launder narcotics proceeds, global distribution of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and other drugs and use of firearms.

During the 11-week trial jurors were shown shocking photos of crime scenes, drugs, military-grade weapons, and tunnels used by the drug lord during his decades-long career.

New York's Brooklyn Bridge partly closed-off while El Chapo was transported from his prison cell in Manhattan to the courtroom for hearings.

Jurors in federal court in Brooklyn found Guzman, 61, guilty on all 10 counts.

A jury whose members' identities were kept secret reached a verdict after deliberating six days in the expansive case, sorting through what authorities called an "avalanche" of evidence gathered since the late 1980s that Guzman and his murderous Sinaloa drug cartel made billions in profits by smuggling tons of cocaine, heroin, meth and marijuana into the U.S.

Guzman spoke in the courtroom only once during the trial, saying he would not testify in his own defense, NBC News reported. "And I will reserve". Guzman smiled and waved, and she touched her hand to her chest.

Guzman's lawyers say he was set up as a "fall guy" by Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, a powerful drug lord from Sinaloa who remains at large.

U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan lauded the jury's meticulous attention to detail and the "remarkable" approach it took toward deliberations. "We were faced with extraordinary and unprecedented obstacles in defending Joaquin, including his detention in solitary confinement", the statement said, Reuters reported.

The prosecution's case against Guzman, a roughly 5½-foot figure whose nickname translates to "Shorty", included the testimony of former associates and other witnesses.

Recaptured drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is escorted by soldiers at the hangar belonging to the office of the Attorney General in Mexico City, Mexico, on January 8, 2016. After he was recaptured in 2016, he was extradited to the United States to face American federal charges.
