Also, in 2014, two graduate students from MIT created a report looking at the feasibility of the Mars One mission, claiming that the technology was simply not mature enough for the plan to work and that it would require far more cash and deliveries of extra parts than the mission claimed.

For applicants such as Heidi Beemer, a young U.S. Army officer who made it to one of Mars One's final rounds, the chance to live and die on Mars was the answer to a long-held quest.

The Mars One project Ventures, has repeatedly yielded to criticism of scientists and specialists. Mars One was quietly declared bankrupt last month, placing the burden of colonizing Mars on NASA, SpaceX or perhaps some other privately funded entity. "The goal of the investor and Mars One is to achieve either a reversal of the administration or a restart based on a financial agreement with the liquidator".

Mars One, the startup that wanted to send a team to the Red Planet by getting funding through a reality television show, has gone bankrupt.

The most recent Mars One announcement, although a possible fatal setback, nonetheless echoes the optimism that CEO Bas Lansdorp showed when the project started taking astronaut applications back in 2013, when he said the $6 billion price for the Mars effort "is actually a bargain" when compared to large undertakings such as the Summer Olympics. The investment company now in talks "has expressed its intention" to pay Mars One's creditors that money owed.

The company planned to ship a total of 24 people in groups of four in 2024, which Mars One says could be done using today's technology. After all, Mars One itself isn't an engineering firm, and has no operations in building space craft.

Mars One started grabbing headlines in 2012 when the company revealed its insane plan to send humans to Mars in 2020s.

The news comes as absolutely no surprise to anyone at Outer Places. Interesting times, but we still suggest would-be Martian colonists probably shouldn't bother packing their suitcases quite yet.
