  • Ector County Texas Sheriff's Office shows confessed serial killer Samuel Little.

Serial Killer Samuel Little has made portraits of 16 of his victims who remain unknown.

Among the victims are six women killed in Miami-Dade County in the 1970s.

The agency is hoping "that someone - a family member, former neighbour, friend - might recognise the victim and provide that crucial clue in helping authorities make an identification", an agency spokeswoman, Shayne Buchwald, said in a statement.

"We want to give these women their names back and their family some long-awaited answers".

Samuel Little, 78, sparked investigations into cold cases in several U.S. states after he began confessing to the crimes last May.

The strategy has worked before, Buchwald said.

Little also told agents that he drew his victims - and each portrait is marked with a city and year in which the murder occurred. He is now serving three life sentences in the strangulation deaths of three women in California.

The 78-year-old man told investigators he was responsible for more killings between 1970 and 2005, all across the country. Agents who have interviewed Little say he remembers his victims and the killings in great detail, including where he was and what auto he was driving.

Little is serving a life sentence in Texas after pleading guilty in December in Odessa to the 1994 strangulation of Denise Christie Brothers, whose body was found about a month after she disappeared.

According to the FBI, Little, who was a one-time competitive boxer, chose to kill marginalized and vulnerable women who were often involved in prostitution and addicted to drugs. Palazzolo and Angela Williamson, a Justice Department senior policy advisor and ViCAP liaison, who both spoke to Little, said that he remembered great detail from the killings.

In a jailhouse interview with Jillian Lauren of NY magazine, Little said he had evaded capture by preying on those whose deaths would not garner widespread public attention.

"Over the course of that interview in May", an Federal Bureau of Investigation article explained, "he went through city and state and gave Ranger Holland the number of people he killed in each place".

The stunning confessions could make Little the most prolific serial killer in USA history if these cases are confirmed by the authorities. "Jackson, Mississippi - one; Cincinnati, Ohio - one; Phoenix, Arizona - three; Las Vegas, Nevada - one".

Investigators have confirmed 34 of the confessed killings, authorities said in November.

He was arrested at a Kentucky homeless shelter in September 2012 and extradited to California, where he was wanted on a narcotics charge.
