  • Polestar 2 Teased, Will Have Around 395 HP And 300 Miles Of Range

Polestar, the new electric luxury brand of China's Geely, which is the parent company of the Volvo Car Group, revealed the first glimpse of its new electric car, the Polestar 2. As far as we can tell, this may be the first real competitor against the Model 3. Also, unlike the Polestar 1 which is available as a left-hand drive model only, the Polestar 2 will be available with the steering wheel on the right side. That would suggest either a hatchback or an edgy crossover design, Polestar calling it a "fastback".

The Polestar 1 will share its CMA-platform (Compact Modular Architecture) with Volvo's XC40, which could mean that one day, we could be able to find the technical specifications of the Polestar 1 in the compact Volvo-SUV.

Describing the way forward as electric, Polestar confirmed "this year we go all-in with the launch of the electric Polestar 2".

Perhaps the most significant detail in the short release. The second model in the Polestar-model range is to be the fully electric Polestar 2, that is believed to be marketed at a cost that is very near to that of Tesla's "budget" model.

Polestar's upcoming EV sedan will enter production close on the heels of the Polestar 1, which is a long-range hybrid set to enter production later on in 2019. The auto will be available on subscription, which will be a slightly more premium version of Volvo's "Care by Volvo" package. The Polestar 2 will also rival the likes of the BMW 3-Series and the Audi A4. The company is holding back additional information, though, with plans to officially debut the vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show.
