The Duchess of Sussex's bodyguard has announced her resignation after six months on the job according to news reports in The Times.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly did not attend Kate Middleton's birthday lunch last weekend.

The female police officer has never been named for security reasons, but she was the bodyguard who was photographed leaping into action during a security scare in Fiji during the couple's royal tour a year ago.

The bodyguard's name wasn't identified, yet insiders claimed that she is leaving the police force entirely.

While Kensington Palace declined to comment on the assistant's departure, a spokesperson reportedly described her as a "hugely talented person" who "played a pivotal royal in the success of the royal wedding".

The bodyguard was rumoured to be helping Harry and Meghan with security plans for Frogmore Cottage, which they plan to move into before their baby is born in the spring.

The Metropolitan Police officer, who remains unnamed for security reasons, resigned after six months on the job, The Sunday Times reported.

The duke and duchess's private secretary, Samantha Cohen, is also set to leave as planned later this year.

"Even though she was a famous actress, she could still do what she wanted in the way of getting around freely".

According to The Sun, the female protection officer is the third close aide to stop working for Meghan in a little over two months.

"But in her current role she can't go anywhere without her protection team, and that's a massive constraining force on an individual like her", the source added.

"Just as Meghan encouraged a helping of culinary adventure, so she dramatically changed the contents of Prince Harry's fridge", Morton told the outlet.
