  • Michael Strahan interviews Kevin Hart on GMA

He stepped down as host and has since apologized for his comments, but some critics have found his contrition to be insufficient.

The comedian, 39, struck a defensive tone on on Good Morning America Wednesday morning, emphasizing that he was "done" discussing the topic.

In December, the Academy announced that they'd tapped Hart to host the upcoming awards ceremony.

In fact, they were reportedly upset when the famed comedian portrayed himself as a victim of internet trolls during his interview with Ellen Degeneres last week. "I had some real good jokes", Hart claimed. The latter apology caused severe criticism, with many calling out the talk show host for defending Hart and vouching for him to still host the Oscars.

"We are a huge group of people who love you and want to see you host the Oscars", DeGeneres shared. There was a possibility of Hart coming back if the Academy felt his appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' show revealed true remorse, but Hart once again played the victim card as opposed to offering any kind of a genuine apology. "But I don't believe in going backward". You've done it. Don't let those people win. You should host the Oscars. The statuettes will be presented to winners of the 78th Academy Awards 05 March 2006 in Hollywood. Tuesday, the Philadelphia-born superstar took to his SiriusXM radio show Straight from the Hart to address the situation again. I'm over that, I'm over the moment, and I'm about today.

The actor explained: "It gets no more energy from me".

He later said that if he was ready for the Oscars and would have brought some heat. "It's not in God's plan right now".

As for hosting in the future?

"If it was five years ago, I could say something really offensive and amusing right now, but I can't do that anymore, so...heyyyy!"

The Oscars will not have a host this year, according to new reports. Speaking with Variety last Friday, Hart put those rumors to rest when he unequivocally stated, "It's done". I didn't say these words to people, at the time, this was our dumb asses on Twitter going back and forth with each other.
