Mourinho rules out return to management at Benfica following Man Utd sacking

  • Man Utd threaten to hold Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid appointment Here’s why

When Mourinho joined United in 2016, chief executive Ed Woodward included a release agreement that allowed them to claim compensation if he joined a new club within 12 months of leaving.

The Portuguese specialist now has right to head another club.

The 55-year-old will cover Premier League and Asian Cup games for the broadcaster. His team won the Football League Super Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League.

However, Mourinho's replacement at Old Trafford Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone on to win all his five matches in charge, netting times in the process.

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he never planned taking up any job in Portugal at the moment.

However, the La Liga heavyweights face a major stumbling block in the form of their former manager's severance package at Manchester United, who are due to pay him £15 million.

"When a professional returns or is invited to return to a club it is a tremendous honor". They're not signing someone they don't know, they are going for someone they know, someone who has already been there.

No one was surprised by his sacking, and Mourinho himself had spent the final months of his job looking like a man who had checked out ages ago and was simply waiting for his employers to run out of patience.

Mourinho said he was happy at being linked with a return, but prefers not to be talked about in public about when out of work.

"The best way to respect a great club [Benfica] and a great president is to say that I was not approached".

Will Jose Mourinho be the darling of Real Madrid fans again?

Based on that trajectory it won't be too long till he's back at Chelsea or become Prime Minister, whichever of those jobs is available first, so probably PM then.

While he may be keen on Madrid, Mourinho has however ruled out a return to his homeland to manage Benfica by describing it as a "closed chapter".
