The spectacular show, which graces the sky every January, is expected to crest between 9 and 10 p.m. EST Thursday, according to the International Meteor Organization. But they will be most visible at their peak on January 3, according to the American Meteor Society website.

History: The meteor shower is named after the constellation Quadrans Muralis, which was first observed in 1795, CNN reports. The best hours are late night and early predawn-and tonight is when the show is going to reach its peak.

This Quadrantid meteor made an appearance over New Mexico in 2013.

'Fireballs are larger explosions of light and colour that can persist longer than an average meteor streak.

The best time is between midnight at about 6am in the morning.

Qatar is strategically-located in both the Northern and Eastern Hemispheres as it's positioned in the Middle East, a recognized geographical region of southwestern Asia.

IF we get lucky and get a few breaks in the clouds, you'll want to go to a dark place and find the Big Dipper.

Be sure to bundle up if you're trying to view the shower, as temperatures are expected to be in the mid-twenties overnight Thursday.

'Lie flat on your back with your feet facing northeast and look up, taking in as much of the sky as possible. Avoiding light from cellphones and other sources will give people's eyes more time to adjust to the darkness and make the meteors easier to see.

'Be patient-the show will last until dawn, so you have plenty of time to catch a glimpse'.
