New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is planning to roll out a government funded plan to guarantee every New York City resident comprehensive healthcare, regardless of immigration status or one's ability to pay.
Not only will NY be a sanctuary city, Mayor de Blasio will now seek $100 million in new spending to provide full comprehensive healthcare for all, including its undocumented immigrants.
The liberal mayor said the plan will serve the 600,000 New Yorkers who don't have insurance by strengthening NYC's public health insurance option, MetroPlus.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has chose to lead the progressive charge on the health care front.

Kathryn Wylde, president and CEO of the Partnership for New York City, promptly labeled de Blasio's proposal "another example of municipal overreach into the city's private-sector economy". "When everyone is able to get access to services when they need them, and they have preventative services and they can see a primary care doctor", she said, "the whole health-care system works better". "It would protect them from having to choose between losing pay and going to their kid's graduation or the funeral of a loved one", Sonn said.
NYC Care will be launched in the Bronx later this year and expand to all New Yorkers in 2021. "All New Yorkers should have access to this kind of high-quality care".
Proponents of a nationwide Medicare for All system were quick to applaud de Blasio's plan as a major victory for health justice and a significant step toward the establishment of a statewide single-payer system in NY.
"You know the national reality, the Republicans in Washington are trying to tear down healthcare, trying to tear down the universality of health care coverage, get rid of Obamacare". Health experts say that access to regular medical visits can cut down on costly hospital stays. The city intends to set up a 24/7 help line to assist people with their after-hours needs as well.
The program marks the Democratic mayor's effort to address the progressive priority of providing universal healthcare coverage.
