Broncos Reportedly Pull a Stunner and Fire Gary Kubiak

  • Gary Kubiak will not be Broncos offensive coordinator, sources say

Kubiak as Denver's offensive coordinator appeared to be such a foregone conclusion that they weren't letting him interview elsewhere earlier in the offseason.

The news that Kubiak was interested in becoming the Broncos' offensive coordinator came as a surprise because two years ago Kubiak resigned as the Broncos' head coach and said health issues made it impossible for him to do the job.

The rumors for days, ever since word got out that Fangio accepted Denver's offer to become coach, was that he would run the defense and Kubiak would run the offense, be it as coordinator or some other assistant title.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, due to differing opinions on staffing and offensive philosophy, Kubiak will not be the Broncos' next offensive coordinator.

Kubiak's zone-run scheme seemed like a ideal fit, much in the way his offense fit seventh-round pick Justin Forsett in Baltimore. After one year away from football, Kubiak returned to the Broncos as an executive in 2017.

Throughout his career Kubiak has spent time with various other teams, too, including a stint with the Houston Texans as a head coach from 2006-13. "If Gary is interested, then I'm interested".
