Australia failed to find or clear the rope once between the start of the 37th over and end of the 43rd over, a stretch that featured just 27 runs.

The show, which aired last Sunday in India, featured Pandya boasting about his exploits with women, his behaviour at nightclubs and telling a story about the day he lost his virginity.

The young pacer said that the hosts were confident of defending a "competitive" 288 as they thought the SCG wicket was on the slower side. "Then I can imagine". Rahul was not as loose with his comments but did talk about getting in trouble from his parents for having condoms when he was an 18-year-old.

The BCCI statement said both offending players were initially hit with a notice which led them to respond with an apology.

"The players are hereby suspended with immediate effect from participating in any manner whatsoever in any match or function or event or activity that is authorised, organised, sanctioned, recognised or supported in any way by the BCCI, the ICC or any state association, until final adjudication of the matter", the BCCI said in a statement.

The legal team suggested that Johri send fresh show-cause notices to both players and that he submit his final report within 15 days.

As per the new BCCI constitution, the power to sanction players for indiscipline or misconduct is to rest with the BCCI's Apex Council.

Rohit Sharma blasted 133 off 129 balls in a courageous effort to keep India in the contest, while Jhye Richardson took four for 26 for Australia. The bigger question though is regarding Pandya's absence, for the all-rounder tends to provide balance to the ODI side with his ability to bowl 10 overs as well as bat in the middle order.

Sharma countered with his 22nd ODI century, sharing a 137-run stand with MS Dhoni as they threatened to drag the tourists to victory.

"This changes nothing in terms of our beliefs in the changeroom", he said.

"I think we've just played like we're a bit scared", Haddin said. To make the interview-from-hell worse, the drama around it has been played out openly by the Indian cricket board.

Rohit Sharma's individual brilliance was not enough to make up for a floundering top and middle order as India suffered a 34-run defeat at the hands of a resilient Australia in the first One-day worldwide.

Pandya offered a public apology via Twitter on Tuesday.

'After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way.

On his official Twitter page, Pandya said he got "carried away" on the show and did not mean any "disrespect" with his comments.
