The will-they, won't-they story of Apple's AirPower accessory appears to have taken another turn. Apple's AirPods, for example, shipped more than two months later than expected and, upon actually launching, were incredibly hard to find.

Apple promised to deliver its first wireless charging mat, called AirPower, in 2018 but for whatever reason, it's yet to see the light of day. Apple did say that the wireless charging pad would launch in 2018, but it didn't happen.

Not so, apparently: rumours of AirPower's death have been greatly exaggerated, and according to one source the mythical charging matt is now entering general production. This company is also said to be the same one that manufacturers AirPods and USB-C cables for Apple.

Breaking: AirPower is finally coming.

Apple AirPower: Another source claims Pegatron is set to start mass produce AirPower at Jan 21.

The latest update on AirPower comes via Hong Kong website ChargerLAB which cites a "credible source" within Apple's supply chain. There were also reports past year that Pegatron would also be producing AirPower, and shortly after their first tweet, ChargerLAB followed up with a source saying that Pegatron would begin manufacturing on January 21st.

As to why AirPower has been delayed, there have been numerous reports pointing to tremendous technical challenges involved in bringing the product to market, including complex circuitry and ensuring that the device doesn't overheat.
