Trump Picks Former 'FOX & Friends' Correspondent Heather Nauert as UN Ambassador

President Trump said Friday he would nominate Nauert, 48, who is a former Fox News anchorwoman.
In announcing his decision, Trump said Nauert was "very talented, very smart, very quick".
Unlike the current ambassador, Nikki Haley, Nauert is not expected to be given cabinet status, downgrading the role to being largely a mouthpiece for the secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, and the national security adviser, John Bolton - both of whom are deeply sceptical of the UN's usefulness.
Nauert assumed the new high-profile role after holding just one position in government, that of State Department spokesperson, which she held from late April 2017 until now, but this was apparently more than outweighed by her extensive journalistic experience.
In 2016, she tweeted a New York Times story on Muslim Americans' concerns about the rise of Trump, writing: "Omg-They should meet #ISIS".
Trump's decision was first reported by Bloomberg News and if confirmed Nauert is likely face a "tough" Senate confirmation hearing.
"Those I know who work with her remark frequently that she is more open than most Trump appointees to listening to and working with career diplomats", said Brett Bruen, who served as White House director of global engagement under former president Barack Obama.
On the other hand, while mostly toeing the administration's line at the state department lectern, she has spoken out strongly in support of journalism, at a time the president has referred to the press as the "enemy of the people", and called for accountability for the massacre of Rohingya civilians by Burmese forces while the administration dithered over whether to call the mass killings a genocide. It also talks about how, despite Nauert being "TV savvy", her current and former colleagues have wondered if she will be fit for the top post which will require her to navigate gritty behind-the-scenes work of United Nations negotiations.
He said she lacks experience and that her loyalty to Trump and experience as an anchor on his favorite cable news network are insufficient qualifications.
Haley told The Weekly Standard she would remain in NY for the next two years so her son could finish high school there, and she wanted to remain an active voice on foreign policy.
The Washinton Post also quoted former state department official Brett Bruen as saying, "While Haley didn't bring foreign policy experience, she ran a state".
China is fully confident that it can reach a trade deal with the US within the 90 days set for talks, Gao said. Trump also warned this week of more tariffs if the two sides could not resolve their differences.
Another noteworthy aspect of the findings is how little additional warming it now takes to cause huge spikes in ice sheet melting. Ice cover is disappearing faster than in the last four hundred years, and possibly in the last seven or eight millennia.

But he says Liverpool must beat Bournemouth to pile the pressure on them should they slip up on Saturday evening. I expect them to edge this one, too - but Bournemouth can't be underestimated this season.
Regardless of other possible reasons, "it is mainly indicative of worries about how long growth in the US can remain so strong". Rather, I suggest there should not be a Fed at all and interest rates should be left to the free market.
