PSG to snatch City target De Jong

  • Man City boss Guardiola wanted Ajax star De Jong on board

Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong could be heading for Paris Saint-Germain next summer because the club is willing to pay the required €75m for the 21-year-old, the Telegraaf reported on Friday.

De Jong is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in European football, and a number of clubs - including Manchester City and Barcelona - have been credited with an interest.

The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated young players in world football and he, along with teammate Matthijs De Ligt, has been linked heavily with possible moves to Barcelona and Manchester City. "City and Barcelona are great examples".

Given De Jong's budding reputation as a skilled passer, it is no surprise he enjoys how Pep Guardiola's sides play, whether they are his old Barcelona champions or his current Manchester City squad.

'There are so many I look at, especially the midfielders. Then we will see. You have the guys from Barcelona, the guys from Manchester City.

"The rumours appeared again today and I'm sure it will stay like this for a while, but I think we're handling it well". There are so many to learn from.

"I don't pay attention to it", De Jong said.

De Jong seems destined to become Ajax's most expensive sale ever - beating the £35m that Tottenham had to pay for Davinson Sanchez a year ago.

De Jong has been capped five times by the Netherlands and played a key role in their Nations League campaign where they next face England in June 2019.

Expounding on the transfer speculation, in particular the stories surrounding a big-money bid from Ligue 1 champions PSG, he added: "It's an issue since the start of the season".
