North Carolina Republicans call for bipartisan probe of fraud in House race

  • Stacy Holcomb 57 stands in front of his home in Bladenboro N.C. where he says he was approached by a woman during the midterm elections and offered assistance submitting an absentee ballot an occurrence that many in Bladen County have said happened

But others aren't so sure. "But there's no way Mr. Harris knew", said Woodhouse.

"Which is an extreme burden on the county's residents", Stone said. Joshua Malcolm, a Robeson County attorney, is chairman of the nine-member board.

"No comment, no disrespect to you", Dowless said, before hanging up. But among those who filed discredited complaints to support McCrory was Leslie McCrae Dowless, the man now at the center of a ballot-fraud scandal under investigation by state election and law enforcement officials.

There is no evidence that the irregularities in absentee ballot returns changed the outcome of the race. But we do know enough. "Then you have to consider if the other elections were affected as well as how could they not be affected if the top of the ticket was affected".

Unofficial ballot totals showed Harris ahead of McCready by 905 votes in District 9.

Rep. Robert Pittenger's (R-NC) staff warned state and national Republican officials that his primary loss to Mark Harris may have been tainted by fraud way back in May, according to a new report from the Washington Post, but little was done to look into it.

McCready rescinded his concession on Thursday.

McCready conceded the race the day after the midterms after not asking for the recount he was entitled to because the margin was so small.

The judicial race between Moody, who works in the Public Defender's Office, and Burton, an assistant prosecutor in the District Attorney's Office, remained contested after the polls closed on November 6. That panel can open its own probe with full investigative powers, including subpoenas, hearings and even deciding which votes should count. Multiple people have admitted to WSOC's Joe Bruno that they were paid to serve as witnesses to and collect absentee mail-in ballots, which is illegal.

Dan McCready, the Democrat running for Congress in the disputed 9th District, has renounced his concession.

"And the House leadership is not going to let that happen", he said. Yet the race in the 9th Congressional District could be historical for all the questions it has raised. "But it is not likely that would happen", Dallas Woodhouse, North Carolina Republican Party executive director, wrote in an email.

"If they can show a substantial likelihood it could have changed the race then we fully would support a new election", he said in a statement, adding that Harris should be certified the victor if the ballots in question would not have changed the outcome. It is his understanding that Pittenger's staff can be authorized to remain working until a victor is declared so constituent services can continue uninterrupted. There's a real possibility that they will call for a new election. "We would not oppose that". He said the state Republican Party believes these allegations should be fully investigated, and both Republicans and Democrats need to be held accountable for any voter fraud.

Pelosi said "any member-elect can object to the seating and the swearing-in of another member-elect".

"This is bigger than that one seat", Pelosi said. "But with the most egregious case of election tampering our state has seen in decades in front of all of us, Republican lawmakers are attempting to pass blame and derail an ongoing investigation".
