White House suspends credentials for CNN's Jim Acosta

  • RAGING Donald Trump branded CCN reporter Jim Acosta a'terrible person

Video footage and photographs showed the intern grazing Acosta's arm in trying to pry the microphone away, and briefly making contact with the hand holding the microphone.

The CNN statement said the network stood behind Mr. Acosta.

President Donald Trump speaks to CNN journalist Jim Acosta during a news conference in the East Room of the White House, Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, in Washington. She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened.

In a statement by the network, CNN said: "This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better".

But the White House appeared to suggest Acosta had laid hands on the intern.

The exchange marked a new low for Trump's relationship with journalists, which has largely been hostile.

CNN's Jim Acosta stood defiantly on the front row, badgering the president over and over about the caravan and the Russian Federation election, refusing to release the microphone, standing right in front of the president in a shocking confrontation.

"They are not only risky, they are disturbingly un-American", the network said. He said, "I can do something fantastic, and they make it look not good".

Acosta's press pass was yanked after a contentious exchange with President Donald Trump during a post-Election press conference.

"I've just been denied access to the WH".

Trump told Acosta "That's enough!" as the reporter tried to ask another question, moving on to the topic of the Russian Federation investigation. "To be honest. You aren't the best", he hit back.

When NBC reporter Peter Alexander took the mic for the next question, he defended Acosta as a "diligent reporter" - earning Trump´s ire.

So, as the president said that the question was racist, and I - he was literally having white nationalists at the White House. You are a rude, bad person.'14. As for Acosta, he was given no prior warning that his press pass was being revoked other than Sanders's tweet. However, as noted by Acosta and many others, the people travelling within the "caravan" are still hundreds of miles from the U.S. "You shouldn't treat people like that".

Mason, a Reuters correspondent, also came forward in defence of his CNN colleague.

Acosta asked Trump if he thought he had "demonized" migrants by calling the group an "invasion".

"I understand", Alexander said, attempting to ask a question. She did not say to whom she was referring, but the implication was that it was Acosta. Give Acosta back his credential-and a warning not to hog the mic-and let's move on to the next Trump vs. the media outrage.

"They are not only risky, they are disturbingly un-American".

Sanders added Trump "believes in a free press and welcomes tough questions", and that he has given the press "more access than any President in history". "Why doesn't CNN and all journalists who check and verify everything they report sue trump for slander?"

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, CNN concurred, saying: "The White House announced tonight that it has revoked the press pass of CNN's Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta".
