  • David Schwimmer lookalike caught for beer theft

The incident began last month, when the Blackpool-area police posted security images online that showed an apparent thief walking out of a store with armloads of unpaid-for beer.

The actor David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller in the hit USA sitcom, even posted a spoof video showing him carrying a similar crate of beer.

"Officers, I swear it wasn't me", he quipped. As you can see, I was in NY.

Thanks to our colleagues at the Met Police UK, a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall last night on suspicion of theft.

The force announced Monday's arrest on Twitter, thanking Schwimmer for his support.

The case went viral shortly after Lancashire constabulary posted an image of the suspect who was wanted over the theft of a jacket, mobile phone and wallet.

After getting wind of the story, actor David Schwimmer, who played Ross for 10 years, was quick to get in on the act, posting a video that proved he was overseas at the time of the theft. "To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation".

London's Metropolitan Police Department tweeted back, "Happy to help", adding a flawless hashtag: #IllBeThereForYou.

And police have now tracked down the suspect in London.

Following numerous responses, Lancashire Police replied: "Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses".

'He is known to have studied Karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the state of total awareness'. "We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date".
