The Camp Fire in Butte County, about 80 miles north of Sacramento, has now burned 125,000 acres and is 30 percent contained, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported Monday night.

"A lot of people up and down California have lost everything", he said.

"America's Newsroom" spoke to a woman who evacuated from Paradise, California, just moments before a raging wildfire scorched the Northern California town.

The official death toll in Northern California's Camp Fire climbed to 42 on Monday as coroner and recovery teams began surveying the damage in Paradise, a small town in the Sierra Nevada foothills almost entirely devoured by the inferno last week.

Actor Gerard Butler returned to his home in Malibu to survey the damage on his mansion and choked up as he spoke about the people who have "lost everything" in the devastating California wildfires.

Honea added that his office had received requests to check on the wellbeing of more than 1,500 people who had not been heard from by loved ones.

"I want to recover as many remains as we possibly can, as soon as we can", Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said Monday night as he announced the discovery of 13 more dead.

But the Woolsey Fire has hardly spared Hollywood's lovely people either, at least in material ways.

News reports said the wildfire has threatened the homes of many celebrities, including Guillermo del Toro, Alyssa Milano, Will Smith, James Woods, Orlando Bloom, Melissa Etheridge, Cher and Pink.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fires.

To follow ongoing updates from fire and safety officials about the damage to specific areas in the Camp fire, Cal Fire has published a searchable map that includes photos of affected areas, as work crews inspect neighborhoods. Wildlife and household pets' lives are also at risk as the flames continue to spread across California.

The Camp fire up north was 35 percent contained, Cal Fire officials said Tuesday.

The Woolsey Fire is estimated to have destroyed 435 buildings.

Many of those allowed to return were left without power or cellphone service, even if their homes were spared by the flames.

California has endured two of the worst wildfire seasons in its history over the past couple of years, a situation experts attribute in large part to prolonged drought across much of the Western United States.
