Boston guard Kyrie Irving wound up with the ball and he fired it up into the stands before marching off the court instead of allowing the Nuggets to collect it and give it to Murray to commemorate his career night.

Though Irving was clearly angered, Murray said that he didn't mean any disrespect to the Celtics with his final shot attempt. "He did it in a great fashion against us", Irving said of Murray's offensive show. He made us pay in certain instances, making some tough shots and some tough layups.

"Everybody knew I was trying to go for 50 at that point. So, I threw it in the crowd".

"I really wasn't meaning no disrespect".

This isn't the first time Murray's landed himself in some hot water at the end of a sure Nuggets win. Last season, Murray was dribbling out the clock at the end of a win over the Lakers when he chose to clown on Lonzo Ball. A point guard, even one like Murray who hardly falls in line with the traditional mold of the position, is supposed to pass, at least from time to time. "I just lose myself sometimes".

Murray was feeling it all night, hitting 19 of 30 shots, including five 3s. "It was just, my emotions took over and that's how I get sometimes when I get going". Fans love to see this type of competitiveness and animosity between teams, but the league had to take disciplinary action against Irving. The C's continued to play sluggish out of the break, allowing 34 Denver points in the third quarter.
