How to access blocked sites on your phone with Cloudflare’s DNS app

14 November, 2018, 11:09 | Author: Rafael Roberts
  • Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 DNS service comes to Android on 11.11

For privacy, Cloudflare is suggesting that since this is their DNS resolver, they don't plan to track or sell any of the information on you, like your ISP could now try and do from their own DNS.

This iOS software is available now on the App Store.

Typically, your internet service provider (ISP) supplies your DNS service, which turns a domain name like Google.ca into an IP address routers can understand. With the new app version, you will notice Cloudflare has been optimized to run on mobile. The way Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 app works is that it will redirect all your apps to send DNS requests through a local resolver on your phone.

Among other things, Cloudflare's DNS resolver service can also be used to access restricted/blocked websites.

Another touted benefit of 1.1.1.1 is that your internet connection will be safer. After downloading the app, users merely tap a switch and grant permission for the 1.1.1.1 app to create a VPN. The service works really fast, the pages load very quickly, especially if we're talking about those parts of the world in which the internet is a bit slower.

We all know that there's nothing that could've stopped people from using 1.1.1.1 on their phones or on their tablets.

Ultimately, it's a service worth using. The app is now live on both Apple's App Store and Google Play Store, and it is free to download.

Once you have tried out the new Cloudflare version 1.1.1.1 on your mobile device, we want to hear from you.

Cloudflare released 1.1.1.1 quite recently, in April, the 1st of April to be exact, but that doesn't mean that they don't care about the privacy. Now the app still asks for Photos/Media/Files and for Wi-Fi connection information, due to the Instabug reporting library used by developers. But, even if there was a slight performance drop, you have to decide whether that's an acceptable trade-off for increased privacy. Users would also need to take other steps to hide traffic from nosy ISPs, such as using an encrypted VPN or making sure the websites they access support HTTPS. What else would you like to see Cloudflare add in the future to help protect you while on iOS or Android?
