‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Gets a Rotten Tomatoes Score

The prequel series has plenty of new plot for Potterheads to digest - without the added pressure that the Harry Potter films faced of translating already-beloved books to the screen.

As things stand, though, The Crimes of Grindelwald has been deemed "rotten", with the consensus stating that the sequel "has glimmers of the magic familiar to Harry Potter fans, but the story's spell isn't as strong as earlier installments".

Warner Bros confirmed actress Fiona Glascott will play Minerva McGonagall in the new film. The three teachers responsible, Jacy Douglas, Tracey Jones, and Karen Moon, saw that their students connected to J.K. Rowling's world and, in an attempt to engage their kids more fully, redesigned their classrooms and some of their curriculum around the series. The Crimes of Grindelwald picks up where Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them left off - with magical creature lover Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) returning to Europe, where we learn he's been banned from worldwide travel after the havoc wreaked on New York City in the previous film.

This is concerning for people because apparently, fans have worked out that Minerva McGonagall was born in 1935, yet the film is set in 1927.

Which doesn't make much sense if she's meant to be a witch in her 20s or 30s in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts film. Johnny Depp will reprise his role as dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, and several other characters from Potter lore - including Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz), and Nagini (Claudia Kim) - also appear in the film.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald will be released in Australia next Thursday, November 16, 2018.
