But first, let me take a selfie: Ash Barty celebrates booking her place in the WTA Elite Trophy final.

Ashleigh Barty made a blistering start and rode out a tighter second set to win the WTA Elite Trophy title with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory over rising Chinese talent Wang Qiang in Zhuhai, southern Guangdong Province, yesterday.

"It's been a great finish in China this week", said Barty, who completes her season in the best possible way. This year's total prize money is US$2.35 million (S$3.23 million) across the singles and doubles tournaments.

But the Australian broke once more and served out the set.

She took full advantage - taking down world No.14 and defending champion Julia Goerges in the semi-final before beating Wang in the decider, collecting $828,000 for her week's work.

Spurred on by home fans at the Hengqin International Tennis Center, Wang dominated the former world number one, winning 11 games in a row to take the match 6-2, 6-0 and set up a Sunday showdown against Ashleigh Barty.

That solitary break was enough to seal her the title, Barty finishing things off with a delicately sliced backhand that spun out of Wang's reach.

Wang looked well-positioned to get back into the match but couldn't fashion a break against Barty and ultimately paid for her missed chances in the seventh game.

However, Barty was not aware of her new ranking.

"It's been a phenomenal year and I'm looking forward to a bit of holiday and then getting ready for the Australian summer".

It was Barty's third WTA title after her triumphs on grass at the Nottingham Open earlier this year and at the 2017 Malaysian Open but by far her biggest. Both Muguruza and Sevastova had already defeated Zhang Shuai in their opening matches of the Camellia Group, so this final encounter sounded like a knockout match.
