Interestingly, former Arsenal and Milan man Mathieu Flamini stated on Tuesday that his old boss would be a flawless fit for the Serie A side should the move have come to pass.

France Football report that he has been in negotiations with Milan for weeks, and an agreement has almost been reached to replace Gennaro Gattuso as coach.

Reports in France which surfaced this week appeared to consolidate those rumours with the leaders of the American investment fund - which owns the club - believed to be spearheading a move for Wenger to replace Gattuso at the helm.

However, the Frenchman has insisted such claims are ill-informed.

"I regret every mistake I made", Wenger told beIN Sport. He has been without a job since the departure from the Gunners last May.

In an interview with Sky Sports last month the 69-year-old predicted a swift return to management: "I'll be somewhere early next year but I do not know where, I got a good rest".

"I cannot master the rumours, I can only master what I do in my life". At the moment, I'm only just focused on doing well for BEIN Sport, and that's not easy'.

Wenger, who has also been linked with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, tried to put an end to the speculation.

"I don't need to tell you he's an incredible manager".
