Survey Says GOPers Madder, More Likely to Vote Than Dems

The crowd was orders of magnitude smaller than the throngs of women who occupied Senate halls and heckled Republican senators in the runup to Kavanaugh's critical confirmation vote last Saturday, but used the same costumes and held the same signs: "Kava-Nope", "Believe Survivors", and "We do not consent".

Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh (L) hugs his wife Ashley after the ceremony.

Trump showed he still considers the nomination row a political battle.

"On behalf of our nation, I want to apologize to Brett and the entire Kavanaugh family for the awful pain you have been forced to endure", Trump said today during a ceremonial swearing-in at the White House.

Mr Trump apologised to Mr Kavanaugh and his family for "the bad suffering you have been forced to endure".

As Justice Kavanaugh settles into his lifetime seat on the bench of the nation's highest court, the left remains angry.

Then an extra Federal Bureau of Investigation probe - which media reports say was drastically curtailed by the White House - also found nothing new and Kavanaugh was finally voted into the coveted post.

And yet, it's quite plausible that installing a historically unpopular Supreme Court justice - whom most Americans regard as a sex offender - was, nonetheless, a political win for the GOP. He understands that justice must be divorced from the passions of the day - tethered instead to the enduring foundation of our republic: "the Constitution", he said.

He was sworn in by retired Justice Anthony Kennedy at an entirely ceremonial event Monday at the White House.

Later, in Orlando, he called Kavanaugh "a flawless person" and said "evil" people had tried to derail him with "False charges" and "False accusations". Every sitting member of the Supreme Court was present at the ceremony.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, speaks to reporters as he leaves the chamber following a procedural vote to advance the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, at the Capitol in Washington, Oct. 5, 2018.

"I give special gratitude to senators Rob Portman, Susan Collins, Joe Manchin, John Kyl and Lindsey Graham". "The Supreme Court is an institution of law".

Speaking before boarding the Marine One helicopter on the White House south lawn, Trump predicted the attack on Kavanaugh would cost the opposition party in next month's nationwide congressional elections. "Don't I? - even though we've done nothing wrong other than create one of the greatest economies in the history of the world". "On the Supreme Court I will seek to be a force for stability and unity".

"I´ve always been told it´s the biggest thing a president can do and I can understand that", he said.

"To the men and women of the United States Capitol Police and all the other law enforcement officers who kept members, staff and citizens safe, even in extremely hard and often hostile circumstances, we really can't thank them enough", he said in his opening remarks on the Senate floor.
