Barkley's Celtics hate has apparently carried over into the 2018-19 season, given his postgame comments following their 105-87 victory over the Sixers Tuesday at T.D. Garden.

The Celtics survived a lethargic start and rough shooting night but rallied to lead by as many as 18 in the second half.

Excitement was high for the Philadelphia 76ers heading into Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Boston Celtics after last year's surprise success for Brett Brown's squad, but unfortunately things didn't exactly go according to plan.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year's game involved no-look, behind-the-back and off-the-ground passes, slashes to the basket, dunks and jump hook shots.

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 23 points and nine rebounds, while five different players scored in double figures. Forward Gordon Hayward showed a bit of his rust in his return as well, finishing with just 10 points in the contest, but still, it was too much Boston for Philadelphia.

The 76ers' Australian rookie Jonah Bolden was brought on in the final minute and did not take a shot.

Celtics: Visit the Raptors on Friday.

As Sixers coach Brett Brown said, Irving and Hayward fit perfectly into the style of play the Celtics employed in the playoffs a year ago.

Irving was also back following a pair of surgeries on his left knee that caused him to miss the end of the regular season and playoffs. Philadelphia could struggle to win big games if they cannot find a couple more risky shooters.

Check out some of the highlights from last night's National Basketball Association season-opener in the posts embedded below. The Sixers also committed 11 first-half turnovers that led to 10 Celtics' points. Brad Stevens doesn't need the best players in a given matchup to exploit the opposition, but now he has them.

We'll be back with some more great content from around the web on Saturday. Redick starting the third quarter was expected, but T.J. McConnell outplaying Fultz down the stretch was not.

One of the biggest changes for Philadelphia entering the new season is the insertion of second-year guard Markelle Fultz into the starting lineup. Schroder finished with 21 points (on 19 shots) and had nine assists on opening night, showing his value as a shot creator.

Brown and Tatum are rare young stars who get just as excited shutting their opponent down as they do scoring.
