LeBron James: Lakers' Team Chemistry Not Like "Instant Oatmeal"

  • Duke in the NBA: Lakers exercise option on Brandon Ingram

Learning to play as a cohesive unit is a process that happens "not as fast as you guys think it's going to happen", James said, according to ESPN.

Brandon Ingram was the No. 2 Overall selection in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers and he isn't going any where any time soon as the Lakers have exercised their team option on the Duke Basketball product for the 2019-20 season.

"I always compare it to instant oatmeal, it's not that fast, it takes a while for the chemistry to get to where you could close your eyes and know exactly where your guys are".

The 33-year-old signed a four-year, $154 million deal with the Lakers in July after leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers.

LeBron James finished the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds. He added a follow-up 19 seconds later with a one-handed effort.

His game was not flawless, however, as James went 0-4 on three-pointers and notched six turnovers.

Damian Lillard scored 28 points for Portland and Nik Stauskas matched his career high with 24, on his debut.

James called for patience as the Lakers gel after they were consigned to a 128-119 defeat on Thursday.

While the team still has many question marks, James' first points with the franchise made a statement that the new era had begun.

Ball is will also be on a minutes restriction for the night, Luke Walton said during the morning shootaround.

The four-time MVP's points tally was the joint-second best on debut for the team, just one short of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record.

The Lakers face the Houston Rockets on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Action, when the Staples Center will be packed to the rafters.
