Kavanaugh investigation: FBI 'hasn't spoken to Christine Blasey Ford'

  • Trump says ‘scary time’ for young men facing false charges

"How'd you get home?"

And speaking at an event hosted by The Atlantic magazine, Trump ally Senator Lindsey Graham of SC said he "didn't particularly like" the president's remarks, adding, "I would tell him, knock it off". "How did you get there?" I don't remember. Where was the place?

"Thirty-six years ago this happened". 'I don't know.' Where's the house?

With support from the clowns in the peanut gallery (crowd), he repeatedly mocked Ford's testimony about being sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh ... specifically her claim that she only had one beer at the party where it allegedly took place. Judge, identified by Ford as a witness to the alleged assault, has denied any memory of such an incident.

Michael Bromwich, one of Blasey Ford's attorneys, called it "a vicious, vile and soulless attack" on his client.

"Is it any wonder that she was terrified to come forward, and that other sexual assault survivors are as well?" he added.

"She is a remarkable profile in courage".

The fact that Trump mocked Ford at a political rally was "not right", Flake told NBC's Today Show.

"I don't know how she knew she had one beer", he said. "I'm the first person to say, 'I want to hear it from Dr. Ford.' I thought she was handled respectfully".

Trump's comments have been criticized by two key Republicans who are yet undecided on Kavanaugh's confirmation.

While she has not indicated if it would impact her vote, Collins told reporters that she thought "the president's comments were just plain wrong" at a rally Tuesday in Mississippi. Personal information about some lawmakers also has been released online. But Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has said Ford's account could have been examined confidentially by the committee, if Feinstein had brought it to him. "It's all just so terrible and depressing".

Christine Blasey Ford testifies to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, on September 27, 2018.

Trump's comments at Tuesday's rally prompted a debate that played out on cable television and elsewhere over whether he had hurt his nominee's chances. She faces three opponents in the nonpartisan special election for the remaining two years of Cochran's term: Republican Chris McDaniel and Democrats Mike Espy and Tobey Bartee.

"And a man's life is in tatters", Trump added. "These are really evil people".

In response to pressure from the Senate, the White House eased limitations on the investigation that Trump approved on September 28.

Besides Mr Trump, Senate Republicans also began to aim credibility questions at Ms Ford.

Officials said Trump is seeking to boost Hyde-Smith as close as possible to the 50 percent threshold and lend momentum for a possible runoff.

Flake was instrumental in initiating an FBI investigation into the allegations against Kavanaugh, a conservative federal appeals court judge nominated by Trump for a lifetime job on the top USA court. In the letter, the lawyers ask for a call with Wray or the supervisory special agent in charge of the investigation. Last week, Ford recounted to the Senate Judiciary Committee her allegation that Kavanaugh had forced himself on her and groped her during high school. Jeff Flake of Arizona were even assigned special protection in response to the heightened levels of harassment.

Garrett is at least the fifth person known to have been interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation since last Friday, when the White House directed the Federal Bureau of Investigation to look into allegations of sexual misconduct dating back to Kavanaugh's high school and college years.
