Ronaldo has denied the accusation.

However, Nike and EA Sports, who both sponsor Ronaldo, have revealed they are "very concerned" by the allegations.

The sportswear giant said it is "deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation".

Despite Ronaldo, 33, entering the twilight of his career, the Italian club's owners did not think twice about putting pen to paper on the mega-deal to bring one of the world's most marketable athletes to Turin.

The handsome forward left Real Madrid after winning four Champions League titles - a trophy Juventus has lifted just twice in their history - and becoming their record scorer with 451 goals in 438 games.

Juventus have faced a backlash for issuing their support for "great champion" Cristiano Ronaldo amid rape allegations against the Portugal star - as sponsors including Nike expressed "deep concern" over the claims.

Kathryn Mayorga sued Ronaldo in a district court in Clark County, Nevada, alleging he raped her in 2009 in a Las Vegas hotel penthouse suite.

"The events allegedly dating back to nearly 10 years ago do not change this opinion, which is shared by anyone who has come into contact with this great champion".

Ronaldo was not named in the Portugal squad yesterday for the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Scotland, and may not feature for the national team until next March, although it was not indicated whether his absence is linked to the allegations. Police have also re-opened an investigation.

The Portugal global had previously said the allegation, first reported in German magazine Der Spiegel, was "fake news".

EA Sports have removed the image of Ronaldo from their website and social media pages following the rape allegations that have surfaced earlier this week. Raape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

"Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense", Ronaldo said on Twitter on Wednesday.

The player has said his conscience was clear and that he would await the results of any investigation.

Cristiano Ronaldo has "broad shoulders" and is "ready to return" for Juventus' Serie A clash with Udinese on Saturday, coach Massimiliano Allegri has said.
