Prithvi Shaw is on debut but he has shown no nerves whatsoever as he and Cheteshwar Pujara have taken India to 133/1 at lunch on Day 1 after Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test against West Indies here on Thursday. Shaw, at 18 years and 329 days, reached the historic three-figure mark off just 99 balls against the Windies on Day 1 of the opening Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.

Along the way, Shaw had also become the youngest Indian to score a half-century on Test debut. He is also the third batsman after Shikhar Dhawan (85 balls) and Dwayne Smith (93) to hit his debut ton in under 100 balls.

At the end of the first session, Shaw was unbeaten on 75 and Pujara was on 56 as they posted 130 runs in 25 overs.

India lost a wicket in the very first over but then Pujara and Shaw scored 206 for the second wicket.

Shaw wasted little time in picking up where he had left off in the first session, twice drilling leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo to the leg side boundary in the first over after the interval.

While Shaw is making his India debut, Sunil Ambris and Sherman Lewis will also make their worldwide debut for West Indies.

He was not facing one of the best attacks but he gave ample evidence of his brilliance on way to a memorable hundred. Nearly trapped Kuldeep in front of the stumps.

Shaw, however, continued batting with confidence and his first boundary came in the second over bowled by Keemo Paul, another back foot punch towards the point boundary. The Indian youngster has zoomed to 22 with three fours in the fourth over.

Kraigg Brathwaite, who is standing as captain after Jason Holder suffered a last-minute ankle injury, juggled his bowlers who often looked toothless.
